La Buena Vida

Environment/Politics, Switzerland/Germany 2015

Jairo Fuentes, the young leader of the Tamaquito village in northern Colombia, lives in a forest where nature provides everything the community needs. However, their livelihood is threatened by the massive "El Cerrejón" mine, the world's largest open-pit coal mine, which is devastating the landscape. Coal from Colombia powers plants in Germany and worldwide, fueling modern life. To prevent the violent eviction of his community, Jairo enters negotiations with the mine operators. Despite promises of progress, the Wayúu indigenous people value their traditional way of life over modern homes. Their fight for the forest quickly becomes a struggle for survival.
